Two seasons

He thrives in winter
I squint against the bright light
that’s there only too brief, thinking
that cold came again
that cold came too soon
He dances in snow, the crisp air as his blanket
I dig deep, shy away in the dark
warmth of the earth

Six months pass, now a smile on my face
the hot air of summers long awaited embrace
With sigh and frown
from the heat he’ll refrain,
and aches till the sun behind the horizon fades
Tomorrow again, when I’ll bask in the rays
skin glistening in the sizzling air
He curls up in a corner for relief in the shade
scorning the heat
dreading the day

I call onto him in December
He asks for me in June
Two friends, two seasons
evenly balanced
as darkness and light
near always in tune
